A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a gray vertical bomb, nose to base, with three green horizontal stripes, surmounting sixteen red and gold rays issuant from the center all enclosed by a blue hexagon shaped benzene ring all centered upon a gold eagle with two heads, one looking to the left and the other to the right, with wings extending down on either side of the benzene ring, and below, a semicircular blue scroll inscribed "ESCORT WITH PRIDE," in gold letters.
The colors red, yellow, blue and green are associated with hazardous materials. The gray bomb denotes munitions and explosives, the benzene ring and green stripes, chemicals, and the red and yellow rays, radiological material. The two heads of the eagle, looking to left and right, symbolize the watchfulness and vigilance of the unit and the wings on either side of the symbols denote escort and the protection of the material.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 3 January 1986.
